Regional Ants
White-footed ants are moderately small, measuring 2.5 to 3 millimeters in length. They have black or brown colors with pale, yellowish feet and one-segmented waists.
They are distinguished by two spines on the back, two nodes on the petiole, and grooves on the head and thorax.
These ants do not pose a public health risk, but they can contaminate food and should be avoided.
They prefer moist environments, so they may come indoors during dry weather, or select a humid greehouse for nesting. While ghost ants can eat many different foods, including other ants, they appear to have a preference for sweets, going after sugar, cakes, cookies, candies, and so forth.
The yellow crazy ant is one of the five species of tramp ants, known for invasive behavior and devastating ecological effects.
